The next Welsh Paediatric Society Clinical Meeting will take place at Rossett Hall Hotel in Wrexham on Friday 21st June 2019.

This 1 day event showcases the latest scientific presentations from paediatricians across Wales and neighbouring deaneries, together with lectures from guest speakers and will be followed by a dinner and entertainment in the evening.

Registration is now open and early bird discounts are available for WPS members until Friday 17th May 2019.

Keynote speakers

Dr Andrew Morris
Dr Andrew Morris

Andrew Morris is a consultant and senior lecturer in paediatric inherited metabolic diseases. He is based on the Willink Metabolic Unit, within Genomic Medicine at the Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust. He has been a consultant since 1996, first in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, before moving to Manchester in 2003. For one day each week, he attends the Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool, where he sees metabolic patients from North Wales as well as from Merseyside & Cheshire. 

His research has primarily concerned the diagnosis and management of mitochondrial disorders and fatty acid oxidations defects. He enjoys teaching and is the Chair of the Education & Training Committee of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism. 

Dr Carol Ewing
Dr Carol Ewing

Carol is currently a clinical adviser to the Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Clinical Network. She was a co-contributor to the Greater Manchester Child Health and Wellbeing Framework which was published in 2018. She chairs the Greater Manchester CH&WB Stakeholder Board.

Carol has recently retired from clinical practice. She was a consultant paediatrician at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for 25 years and her special interests were paediatric allergy / atopic eczema.

Carol was the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Vice President for Health Policy from 2014 - 2019. From 2009 - 2014, she was the RCPCH Workforce Officer. As well as advocating UK wide to improve outcomes for children, Carol has helped develop and implement quality standards and models for care to improve child health and services. 

She was a member of the Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Forum from 2012 - 2015, led the acutely ill work-stream / co-led the workforce workstream and contributed to Forum reports from 2012-2015. 

From 2013 - 2014, Carol was the clinical lead for children's services for Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria Strategic Clinical Network (SCN), NHS England. From 2004-2012, Carol led on strategic workforce development for Making it Better, a large-scale reconfiguration of Greater Manchester's children and maternity services. She was also a member of the National Clinical Advisory team until 2013. 

Hayley Lally
Hayley Lally

Hayley qualified as a paediatric nurse in 1999. She initially worked as a burns and plastic surgery nurse at Alder Hey Children's Hospital until 2005.

This was followed by a move into primary care, diagnosing and treating children as a nurse practitioner in unplanned care. 2009 saw the completion of a Masters Degree in Paediatric ambulatory care and development to an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. 

The need for new challenges saw a move into urology in 2017 and a return to Alder Hey, where she is currently working to make a difference, influencing the lives of children and families with continence problems and various urology conditions. 

Linda Hyde
Linda Hyde

Linda qualified as a paediatric nurse from Liverpool John Moore's University with a 1st class honours degree in 2005.

After a short period as a newly qualified nurse working in the winter pressures unit in Alder Hey, Linda transferred to an acute surgical ward specialising in Urology. Linda became a senior staff nurse and remained on the ward for 10 years. Linda then took the opportunity to specialise further in the field of Urology and gained a position as an associate specialist nurse within the Urology nurse-led team. 

In 2017, Linda took the next step in her career by gaining a clinical nurse specialist role within the team. Linda uses her experience to care for a wide range of children and families with urological and continence difficulties. 

 

Dr Joyce Lim
Dr Joyce Lim

Joyce Lim is a paediatric Cardiologist at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. She has special interests in Fetal Cardiology and Cardiac MRI. She has been a consultant at Alder Hey since 2008.

Joyce is the lead for Fetal Cardiology and has twice weekly clinics at Liverpool Women's Hospital (at the Fetal Medicine Unit).She has been involved in training the obstetric sonographers in the North West and North Wales since 2008. The fetal cardiac service has expanded in teams (fetal medicine, neonatal +/- palliative care) involvement for Fetal counselling.

Apart from fetal cardiology, Joyce is also involved in cardiac MRI and 3D modelling / printing work at Alder Hey Hospital

Rossett Hall Hotel is ideally located just over 6 miles from Wrexham and 7 miles from Chester. The hotel is within easy access of the main North West motorway and is only 5 miles from Wrexham General train station.
